Memorial Day
Our country has recently celebrated Memorial Day. This day was set aside by our government as a day to reflect and remember those who have given their lives to protect our freedom and the freedom of others. As we are in the midst of war, many people have asked, "Why are we fighting this war in Iraq? This is not our fight. We need to pull out our troops." Many have lost sight of why we even went to war. Many have forgotten the many attacks that our country has suffered because of terrorists who were trained in Iraq and who continue to be trained in Iraq. Many have forgotten the faces of those Iraqi citizens who still fear that some of their troops remain loyal to an enemy within them. Many in our country have simply forgotten that our great nation helps those who can't help themselves. Our nation prides itself on being the greatest nation in the world. We are an anchor for those who are weak. Our troops willingly accept the challenge to preserve freedom in the world- not just the United States. They bravely go. They bravely serve. They bravely fight and some bravely die- to protect freedom.
Let us not forget that there was one who was willing to protect our salvation. There was one who was willing to die so that we may have freedom from sin. There was one who made that agonizing decision to send our Savior here to this horrible earth for us. Did we deserve Him? No we did not, but God sent Jesus anyway- so that we could have eternal life. God sent His son so that we could one day have a home of peace and a home of grace and home with Him. Every road to freedom has a price. Every road to freedom has a sacrifice. May we always remember that sacrifice that Christ made for us as we also remember the sacrifices that so many make so that others in this world can have freedom.
The sacrifices of our men and women who serve in the armed forces many times pave the way for us to go into countries and teach others the gospel. As they serve us, they serve God. Let us keep them in our prayers and let us thank God that so many have given their lives not only for our freedom, but so that the spreading of the gospel can be continued.
General George S. Patton prayed,
“God of our fathers, who by land and sea have ever lead us to victory, please continue your inspiring guidance in this the greatest of all conflicts. Strengthen my soul so that the weakening instinct of self-preservation, which besets all of us in battle, shall not blind me to my duty to my own manhood, to the glory of my calling, and to my responsibility to my fellow soldiers. Grant to our armed forces that disciplined valor and mutual confidence which insures success in war. Let me not mourn for the men who have died fighting, but rather let me be glad that such heroes have lived. If it be my lot to die, let me do so with courage and honor in a manner which will bring the greatest harm to the enemy, and please, oh Lord, protect and guide those I shall leave behind. Give us the victory, Lord.” |

May God grant us the victory against evil. May God grant us a victory over Satan and all who work for him just as He did so many times throughout biblical history. May we stand firm in our faith and may we live in such a way that God will indeed give us our heavenly reward.
Have a great week. Margie
