The Bible for Women
Weekly Devotional
This is the fifth in a series of five lessons which embraces songs in our
worship by my friend and sister in Christ, Wanda Hankins.
How could I let this series end without including this one:
Jesus Loves Me
Jesus loves me! This I know, For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong, they are weak but He is strong.
Jesus loves me! He who died Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in.
Jesus, take this heart of mine, Make it pure and wholly Thine;
On the cross You died for me, I will try to live for Thee.
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
People call this a child’s song. Think again, my dear sisters!
Read this:
Mark 10: 13-16 “People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.
Sisters, the song, “Jesus Loves Me” belongs to our children and to us! It isn’t just a child’s song! He loves me and loves you as much as He loves the newest baby born, “for the Bible tells me so”! Our children start learning from us right after birth. To them, we, the parents, are so smart – so wise. If you tried to compare our intelligence and knowledge to that of Jesus, though, we would seem like little children forever to Him!
Our knowledge only encompasses things we have been introduced to during our lifetime. The knowledge that Jesus has is far beyond anything we can even imagine. He knows everything about everything! So, doesn’t that make us little children to him? We can never learn all that He knows, no matter how hard we try. We will always be His children.
When we pray to Him, we should pray as a child does. We don’t have to use big words or long sentences because He already knows what we want! Jesus is our friend! When we talk to our friends, do we use big, flowery words? Of course we don’t! Well, in John 15: 14-16 Jesus calls us his friends!
John 15: 14-16 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
Could we ask for a better friend? When we were young, we had friends that were with us for a while and then were gone and we made new friends. Jesus is our friend forever! Give our hearts to Him! Trust Him! Talk to Him in the daytime and in the nighttime.
Matthew 18: 3-5 And He said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
May God grant you love this day! Wanda
