The Bible for Women
Weekly Devotional
Attitude
The following was read to a faculty of teachers and shares with us the value in looking at our lives and our circumstances with a unique perspective. This woman's outlook reminds us that we indeed have a choice in how we handle our trials and our triumphs.
There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three strands of hair on her head. "Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two strands of hair on her head. "Hmmm," she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today." So she did and she had a grand day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one strand of hair on her head. "Well, " she said, "Today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail." So she did and she had a fun, fun day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single strand of hair on her head. "Yay," she exclaimed, "I don't have to fix my hair today!" Attitude is everything.
Was this woman focused on her hair? The woman had a good day every day. She chose to get up, fix her hair, and proceed with her day with very little focus on something that is pretty significant to most women. We are not told why she only had three strands of hair. We are not told what struggles may have caused her to have only three strands of hair. We are not told how others reacted to her lack of hair. We are told of her attitude and her perspective of waking up to only find three strands, two strands, one strand, and then no hair. We are also told of how she maintained her humor in the situation as well. Why did she have such a great attitude.
Our Savior tells his disciples in John 14:1-3, " Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."
Paul, a servant with more physical and emotional struggles than we could possibly endure for the cause of Christ, told the Romans in chapter 10:10-13, " For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
The psalmist wrote in Psalms 121: 1-3 "I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;"
Let us be reminded today, that no matter what our circumstances, we have a God who is not asleep. We have a Savior who never rests. We have a Holy Spirit, who is active. Let's put our faith in someone, not of this world: Our mighty and powerful God who created us and expects our reverence, our fear, our love, our hope, our faith and our trust.
May God bless your week. Margie
