Mothers
When I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, I read a verse by Mary Wollstonecraft that described my feelings. She stated, "I begin to love this little creature, and to anticipate birth as a fresh twist to a knot, which I do not wish to untie." The love I felt for this baby was unbelievable. After she was born, I realized more fully the responsibility in which God entrusted to me. I have a commitment to God to help lead my child to Christ.
The Bible states, "Behold children are a gift of the Lord." (Psalm 127:3)"..but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised." (Proverbs 31:30). A godly mother, who is steadfast in her Christlike example, influences her children in a powerful way. William Ross Wallace wrote, "But a mightier power and stronger man from his throne has hurled, for the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world."
Another woman, Elizabeth Gaskell, understood the importance of leading our children to God. She stated in a diary to her child, " The love which passeth every earthly love and the hope that however we may be separated on earth, we may each of us so behave while sojourning here that we may meet again to renew the dear and tender tie of Mother and Daughter." What a peaceful thought, to know that when we leave this earth, our children will one day join us or we will one day join them, in heaven.
I pray that God will bless all of our mothers, grandmothers and those who want to be mothers, and I thank Him for all of the sweet Christian women who continue to impact our lives and the lives of our children.
